The team here at Beacon Lights took on this energy saving project to replace the failing fluorescent lighting on eight floors of corridors and stairways with energy efficient, sensor-controlled LED luminaires at Neptune Marina, Ipswich. We also undertook the replacement of the existing fluorescent fittings in the underground car park over two floors with LED luminaires.
Working closely with the forward-thinking Neptune Marina management team, we came up with a solution that gives the maximum energy savings based on their requirements and budget.
Our solution included sourcing new luminaires for the corridors that fitted seamlessly into the existing aperture cut out in the metal panelled ceiling tiles. The remit also specified no unlit corridors to ensure the residents’ safety. Low energy LED fittings complete with integral sensors and corridor function ballasts have been fitted, saving 90% on energy costs by dimming down to 10% when the corridor is unoccupied. We designed and manufactured a polycarbonate adaptor ring to enable a snug fit onto the ceiling with no visible gaps.
The typical savings in the 8 floors of corridors and stairwells are £15,452 per annum with a payback period of just over 3 1/2 years including materials and installation costs. This project has a lifetime saving of over £82,000! The PIR savings could be even more depending on the footfall.
The typical savings in the underground car park area (luminaires are at 100% for 24 hour period with no sensors) are £6982 per annum with a payback period of under 2 years, including materials and installation costs. This project has a lifetime saving of just under £40,000!
The end client will enjoy significant energy savings and CO2 reductions, plus significant savings on lamp replacements and maintenance costs.
